If You Want a Job … You Should Call Them Instead Of Applying … Here's why.
The Big concern…
Here’s the big question which I get ALL the time … why should I call them?
- Isn’t that pushy,
- Isn’t that desperate,
- Won’t that get me black listed???
Woah … hold your horses there!
I get why you’d be concerned … but let me explain why not calling them could be the biggest mistake you have ever made.
Why Phone Call?
First thing’s first… you calling them, already makes YOU stand out.
Why?
Because every other applicant thinks that THEY will be pushy and THEY would sound desperate calling … so what do they do???They DON'T call.
And you calling, at least puts you in gaze of the hiring manager immediately!
It shows you’re not scared. It shows you’re serious. And it’s a good opportunity to stand out from the rest of the pile.
Why Is It A Good Opportunity To Call Them?
Before I answer that question …
I want you to picture this …
You are now a hiring manager.
You have 300 applications … all with similar CVs … similar cover letters …
You’re human … unless you have a photographic memory … how can you easily differentiate them from everybody else's … (especially when AI is here to help them)
Do you see how difficult that would be?
Now picture 3000 applicants on your door step … that’s the more REALISTIC number that some of these companies go through …
Not to mention that you also probably have a huge backlog of work you need to finish WHILE going through these applications.
Not to mention that advertising for these applicants are also incredibly expensive.
Also not to mention training a team to go through all these applications!
...
I hope you see where I'm going with this.
You calling them actually HELPS them…
Because you’re saving them TIME by not needing to go through your application and potentially removes the pain of needing to go through all the OTHER applications…
So you not calling them … is not only putting you at a disadvantage because you’re one leaf in a sea of weeds … it is also doing them a disservice for not helping them out with that long hiring process… especially if you truly BELIEVE you can help them.
So How Do I Call Them?
Before you call them you first must have these 3 beliefs:
- I feel I can truly help them and give VALUE.
- They would be making a MISTAKE not hearing me out.
- I will NOT take anything personally … and if I will move on if needed.
Once you have these beliefs then we can begin …
But why is it so important to have these beliefs first?
Because when you first start out you will get a lot of these responses:
“I’m busy right now,”
“Please send everything in an email.”
“Apply through the main website and we’ll get back to you”
And the reason they say all this … is NOT because they want you to follow the standardised process …
It’s because during the call … you CAN sound nervous, desperate and needy …
And even though it is a disservice to them to not hear you out … they hang up on you anyway … which is why it is important that we:
- Have confidence that we can help them.
- Don’t let them get away with hanging up or giving vague answers (I will explain this better later)
- Must be completely okay moving on if it isn't the right fit for both parties.
Once you have this mindset in place … 90% of the job is already done.
What Do I Say In The Call?
Well … have you checked out “THE SCRIPT”
I’ve made a full on script for you guys so you can just get straight to dialing.
It has been tested with multiple people and it works very well.
However, I should let you know its not just WHAT you say but also HOW you say it.
And teaching the proper tonality and pacing will be very difficult if I'm not directly there with you.
Which is why we must have those 3 beliefs from earlier to do most of the blunt work for us.
And have the right tone and pacing to convey the right message.
However, if you wanted me to help you more on a 1-1 level and GUARANTEE you'll get those interview.
Just send me a message saying "GUARANTEE", and I'll get back to you to help you out.
How To Manage The Flow if The Call?
This is gonna be a tough one … because people are unpredictable.
However, I will give you the ONLY 2 rules you need to follow:
1. Get an answer to your question no matter what.
2. Follow the Process (the script) no matter what, and bring them back on script always.
Alright and these two rules becomes A LOT easier provided you have those 3 beliefs you had from earlier.
But it’s still going to be difficult if you’ve never done anything like this before.
Let me give you some examples:
1. Always get them to answer your question.
Let’s say you gave them a brief background on yourself then you ask “...do you think my background could be useful in this role?”
Then they say,
“Ohhh maybe, we’re open to it. We accept all applicants.”
If you’re new … you could be fooled into thinking … ohh they answered the question … I’m going to move on to the next line on the script.
WRONG!
Beginner's mistake. They didn’t answer your question at all because you don’t know if they think your background could be useful (It’s a YES or NO question).
So an example of how you can get the answer is by saying …
“Yeah I totally understand that you’ll accept all applications so you have a wide range to select from … but based on the *specific* background and skills I’ve mentioned … do *you* feel it could help you in this specific role?”
^That’s just one example. There are multiple ways that are actually WAAAAAYY better than this … but this is the most user friendly line.
So remember … always get the answer.
2. Follow The Script No Matter What
Let’s continue from before and let’s say they said
“Yes, I do feel it could help”
The next part of the script is you're supposed to be saying:
“Awesome – what part of my background do you feel could bring the most value to you or your team?”
But let’s say they threw you a curveball.
Let’s say they said:
“Yeah I do feel like it could help because we’ve recruited a lot for this role before and you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to recruit people and …”
^Notice how it’s going in a completely different direction.
We want to control the conversation and bring it BACK to the script:
So an example of how we can do that is by interjecting in between (softly interrupting).
“Hold on {Name}, when you said earlier that it could help … what specifically about my *background* or *skills* do you feel could bring the most value to you or your team?”
Jackpot.
Back on script.
Now you could be asking, is it really that important to stay on script?
Yes.
Because subconsciously if you know the script back to back … it will make you sound more like an expert and prevent any chaotic “adapt now or fail moments”.
And this specific structure has been proven to work already so we wouldn’t want to deviate from it.
"This Sounds Hard ... "
Of course it is.
You’re literally doing something 99% of applicants are too scared to do.
But that’s exactly why it works.
And the more those three beliefs settle in, the easier everything becomes:
✔ You stop sounding nervous
✔ You stop overthinking
✔ You stop accepting vague answers
✔ You start sounding like someone worth interviewing
At that point?
90% of the job is done before the call even starts.
However, I do get that it is a lot easier said that done.
That's why I'm willing to help you out a bit should you need it.
Just hit me with the word "GUARANTEE" and I'll reach out to help you.
Not gonna leave a "scarcity" tactic here like I will only help the next 2 people or the offer only last for the next 4.3 days.
Just send me that phrase whenever you need and I'll help you out.
Also I'll do it all for free (no catch).
GET TO DIALING!!!!!!!
Well that's all I have for you this week guys.
See you all next week and start DIALING!
